From there, we'll pass through Abdoun, showcasing the newest and most modern part of Amman. Our next stop is the historic Roman city of Jerash, known for its paved streets, grand temples, theatres, public squares, baths, fountains, and formidable city walls. It's a mesmerising step back in time. As we venture further into northern Jordan, we'll reach one of the most significant ecological and historical sites in the Middle East: Ajloun. The Ajloun Castle, also known as Qal’at Ar‐Rabad, is a remarkable example of Islamic architecture. It was constructed in 1184 AD under the command of Saladin's general. The purpose was to oversee the iron mines of Ajloun and to counter the advancements of the Crusaders by controlling the three main routes to the Jordan Valley and safeguarding the communication routes between Jordan and Syria.
