Kandy is Sri Lanka’s last capital, which fell into the British Empire. It is home to the Temple of the Tooth, which is believed to house the tooth of Lord Buddha. Sri Lankans celebrate Esala Perahara, an annual festival where the tooth is paraded through the streets on the back of an elephant.
